Successful planning appeal in Scorton

Planning permission has been granted for up to 32 new homes in Scorton, Richmondshire, following a successful planning appeal by Wharfedale Homes.

An independent Government appointed Planning Inspector allowed the planning application off Bolton Road, which also includes significant benefits to the local primary school.

Costs were also awarded to Wharfedale Homes from North Yorkshire Council for the highways element of the appeal and a figure for these costs will be determined shortly.

As part of the plans a 15 space pick up and drop off area will be delivered for the local school (Bolton on Swale Primary School, along with land for expanded playing fields and a financial contribution through the planning permission.

Forty per cent of the new properties will be affordable homes, aimed at local people with housing needs and there will also be open space and children’s play equipment as part of the masterplan for the site.

Matt Gibson, Land and Planning Director for Wharfedale Homes commented:

“It’s great news that the Planning Inspector has granted planning permission so we can deliver these much-needed new homes in Scorton.   Our aim is to build these high-quality homes as soon as possible.  The result of this successful appeal will also be significant improvements to the local school.”

Wharfedale Homes is a Knaresborough headquartered bespoke house builder that currently has projects at Eskdale View in Whitby, Castle View in Sherriff Hutton and, has previously completed developments in Helmsley, Burton Leonard and Harrogate.

Despite being recommended for approval by Council Officers in February, Richmondshire Councillors went against advice and refused the planning application, which resulted in the appeal by Wharfedale Homes.

It’s expected that following this outline planning permission, a reserved matters application will be submitted to North Yorkshire Council in the New Year.
